cwspi2020Navarchos 2 Coordinator Dr. Ioannis Constantinou presented Navarchos Fleet Management Platform functionalities and capabilities in 13th Cyprus Workshop on Signal Processing and Informatics (CWSPI) which was held online on the 21st of September 2020.

This workshop was an opportunity for the Navarchos 2 consortium to present the outcomes of the project from all perspectives (scientific, technological, architecture), exchange knowledge with researchers and promote project’s innovation to professional engineers in the area of data analysis and informatics.

Presentation available in PDF format.

Preface of the Workshop

The overall objective of CWSPI 2020 is to disseminate new research findings in the areas of signal processing, image processing, analysis and informatics. Over the years, CWSPI has grown to become the primary forum of Cyprus’ graduate students to present their latest research endeavors. Moreover, this one-day workshop hosts presentations by faculty and industry researchers serving a key mission of CWSPI, towards establishing strong industry – academia and multi – university collaborations. This year’s efforts are further embraced by Cyprus’ newly founded Research Centers of Excellence, namely RISE CoE and KIOS CoE, constituting CWSPI an ideal event for sharing new knowledge while building effective research networks.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to IEEE Cyprus Section, the IEEE Engineering in Medicine Biology and Signal Processing Societies (EMBS & SPS) Cyprus Chapters, the IEEE CIS Cyprus Chapter and the IET Cyprus Network for their support and sponsorship.

This year the event was carried out via Google Meet, given the current situation with the pandemic

presentation vcc seminarNavarchos 2 Project coordinator Dr. Ioannis Constantinou was invited to present Istognosis’ fuel and operational costs saving solutions in a seminar organized by Value Creation Consulting (VCC) Ltd. The seminar was aimed at businesses that target on fuel saving and operational costs minimization as well as towards decreasing their carbon footprint within the framework of their corporate responsibility. A number of fleet-oriented businesses were invited to participate so as to be informed about recent advancements and solutions.
Dr. Constantinou focused on new technologies in fleet management systems and presented a number of ways to decrease fuel consumption that are based on three basic pillars: (a) improvement of eco-driving behavior, (b) use of routing optimization and scheduling, as well as (c) enablement of predictive maintenance tools and techniques. Finally, the relevance of the aforementioned fuel saving directives with the under development Navarchos 2 Fleet Management System was discussed.

The seminar took place in Cleopatra Hotel in Nicosia on the 6th of November 2019 from 4.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

rise presentationNavarchos 2 Project coordinator Dr. Ioannis Constantinou was invited by Dr. Kleanthis Neocleous, a Multidisciplinary Research Group (MRG) Leader at RISE Center of Excellence (CoE), to present the basic aspects of the Navarchos 2 Project as well as the key areas of intelligence and innovation to a number of researchers and decision makers within the RISE CoE. The aim of that presentation was to find and establish common ground for collaboration in the area of smart systems and emerging technologies from the perspective of smart cities. The presentation led to a fruitful discussion with the participants, connecting project goals to RISE activities.

The presentation took place on RISE premises in Nicosia on the 17th of July 2019.

About RISE CoE

RISE is the Research Centre of Excellence in Cyprus focusing on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies aiming to empower knowledge and technology transfer in the region. It is a joint venture between the three public universities of Cyprus - University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, and, Open University of Cyprus- , the Municipality of Nicosia, and two renowned international partners, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, Germany, and, the University College London, United Kingdom.

The Centre was established through the support of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (H2020 – WIDESPREAD – 2016-2017 – Teaming Phase 2) under grant agreement No. 739578, the Cyprus Government through the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development, the European Structural and Investment Funds, and multiple other sources.
